The Couch Counselling and Support Services is focused on providing client centered service. The Couch is here to help you make the necessary changes needed, to lead a positive and healthy life. With a variety of therapeutic modalities to choose from, we are sure you’ll find the support you are looking for. OUR METHODS

CBT
(Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

CBT is based on the belief that the way we feel and behave is a direct result of the way we think. It is not our external environment (people, situations, or events) that are the cause but how we think about them. By changing our negative thoughts to more balanced and positive ones, we can then feel and act in a healthier way.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy)

EMDR is a phased, focused approach to treating trauma and other symptoms by reconnecting the traumatized person in a safe and measured way to the images, self-thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with the trauma, and allowing the natural healing powers of the brain to move toward adaptive resolutions.

SFT
(Solution Focused Therapy)

SFT is a phased, focused approach to treating trauma and other symptoms by reconnecting the traumatized person in a safe and measured way to the images, self-thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with the trauma, and allowing the natural healing powers of the brain to move toward adaptive  

DBT
(Dialectical Behavioural Therapy)

DBT is a modified type of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others.

PLAYTHERAPY

Playtherapy is a type of therapy that uses play to help the child communicate what is distressing them, since children are not always able to express themselves verbally. In the the way talk therapy works in adults; children process through play and will act out issues in their play. Play is an important part of a child’s world.

TRAUMA-INFORMED THERAPY

Trauma-Informed Therapy is an approach in the human service field that assumes that an individual is more likely than not to have a history of trauma. Trauma-Informed Care recognizes the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledges the role trauma may play in an individual’s life
